Young Minds
I believe that children learn best though physical interaction and when exercising the concept of constructivism. That is why I made this city building tool called Young Minds. Young Minds is a physical tool aimed towards elementary schools, that invite the user to conceptualise on what a city needs in regards to the environment. The users are given a 20x20 empty plate with either grass or concrete on it and now it’s up to them to build their contribution to the big city in the middle. They can either build something that has a negative effect on the city’s environment or a positive effect, either way a conversation will start and new knowledge is being created.
The following pictures show a test I made with a danish elementary school. The children showed both a lot of interest for the subject but also a lot of idea generation for new concepts.
In this project I have learned several things such as managing and driving a workshop for children, how to use a woodworkshop, gather and comprehend relevant data from experiments and how to make 3D graphics in Cinema4D.
